Walk into Quietude – You won't want to miss this unique cross-shaped floor plan

One of the things we love about log homes is their individual character. It is rare to find a log home which is exactly the same as another, and even rarer to find a log home owner that hasn't customized their wooden abode to have its own personality.
Today we shall take a tour of Quietude: A unique wooden cabin which features 300 square feet (27.9 square meters) of internal living space, designed in a distinctive cross shape. This rare-shaped house was designed by architect, Henry Yorke Mann, with a unique dynamic due to the central core creating a feeling of openness. But first, let us explore the beautiful exterior of this one-off home...

Quietude lives up to its name. The quaint home is finished in attractive wood paneling and sits in a garden that is inviting and harmonious. Just lovely!
The unique cross-shaped floor plan gives roof lines which you will rarely see on a log cabin. This attractive shape certainly adds a lot of character to this charming home.
Taking a look from the side, we can see the distinct quarters of the cross-shaped floor plan. The raised rear quarter looks particularly interesting, especially as it benefits from elevated views over the surrounding woodlands - gorgeous!
Ready to take a look at the interior? Let's step inside and explore how the architect envisioned this special little home...
The first quarter of Quietude - immediately to the left of the front door - sits an attractive country-style kitchen. As you can see, the space doesn't feel cramped at all. In fact, it appears deceptively large. This is due to the unique central core of the house being so wide open, rooms are not definitive and spill over into each other.
The rear quarter of Quietude has a generously-sized dining table and glass doors which lead to a small sitting porch with views over the woodlands at the back. This house is quaint, yet perfectly formed, with built-in storage to easily house all your things.
Simplicity defines Quietude, and the cozy sleeping loft is easily accessed by the free-standing ladder. This is simply a place to sleep - it is not a bedroom. The entire house is the place to live.
Despite covering only 300 square feet (27.9 square meters), Quietude manages to find enough space for all your possessions without it feeling packed full of stuff. You can see how it easily fits a sofa without it feeling like it was forced into the space.
The third quarter of Quietude, which is immediately on the right after entering, features a full bathroom. Many cabins with smaller floor plans try to fill a tiny space with a bathroom, creating horribly cramped rooms without enough room to swing a wet towel. Quietude allows the small space to breathe, creating a generously sized bathroom which is more than just functional.
We really like Quietude, because we love to see individual expression in a wooden cabin. Quietude is like no other! Explore the floor plan further here:
