Enter the Senator – this private home's secret lies in the back and it's stunning

One of the main draws to log homes is the privacy of a rustic lifestyle. It is a chance to get away from it all, to escape to a remote part of the world, away from the noise and trappings of modern life. Log cabins always have idyllic natural locations; with gorgeous woodland, mountain or lakefront settings. Who wouldn't want to overlook awe-inspiring nature from within their perfect wooden retreat?
The problem of privacy versus openness to the natural surroundings is one which the Senator by Katahdin Cedar Log Homes resolves perfectly. It is possible to have both in 1,810 square feet; step inside to find out why...

At first glance, the Senator looks like a traditional style log home with gabled dormers in the two upper-level bedrooms.
The customary front porch is a pleasant sitting space to enjoy the late afternoon, however, it is when we step inside the house that we discover the secret of this clever floor plan.
When entering the Senator, your sensations are immediately drawn to the unmistakable smell and brightness of the cedar. This light-colored wood creates vibrant living spaces, whilst the dark wood floors add a nice contrast.
At the rear of the house is the Senator's secluded secret, which is not visible from the front. The open concept living/dining room has a gorgeous cathedral ceiling and plenty of windows. With the bright cedar, this vibrant room is alive with natural light.
From the living room, sliding doors lead to a wide deck area. With the day-to-day living space at the rear of the house, the Senator offers total seclusion from the public.
Looking at the side of the house, we can see how the rear section has a hidden vaulted ceiling. How clever. It means you have all the benefit of natural light and woodland views, yet maintain privacy.
Continuing with the theme of the lighter wood, the cedar kitchen is a bright space with the feel of a country kitchen. Modern appliances are unnoticeably interwoven into the room.
The Senator has three ample-sized bedrooms and two bathrooms. The ground floor master bedroom has plenty of room for large furniture and benefits from direct access to the side porch.
The two upper-level bedrooms can be tailored to suit the requirements of the owner. In the pictured model, these rustic bunk beds are a good solution to sleeping two children whilst maintaining space to play.
No log home would be complete without that special little hideaway. The Senator has a snug loft which is great for reading or simply enjoying the quiet.
