Built over two stories, this unique little log home is a wonderful sight from the exterior. Thick cedar wood timber within a traditional symmetrical rectangular design is beautifully complemented by the high sloping roof lined with bright skylights. While only 400 square feet in size, guests want for nothing in this incredible home.
The ground floor is open plan with a large fireplace creating a central point for the rooms to be organized around. An unusual feature in itself, the modern stone surround rises up into the peak of the triangular roof- a real focal point not only for the living room in which it sits, but also the whole home.
Totems’ structure could really not let in more light. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows line the back wall and coupled with the skylights from the roof and slat windows running down the length of the home, the whole ground floor is dazzling and bright. The furniture has a modern twist on traditional, and the warm autumn colors work well with the spectacular natural surroundings.
Even the walk upstairs in this innovative home is an adventure in terms of design. Wonderfully custom-made narrow stairs run up from beside the bathroom to the sleeping quarters above. This house manages to include such contemporary details as these without it becoming overly flashy.
Privately tucked away between the beams, this unique bedroom has a cabin-like feel to it – there really is no need for extra lighting up here since the moonlight in the evenings would surely be enough. We can just imagine star gazing before falling into a slumber in here, can you?
Totems opens up onto a raised stone patio area, perfect for warmer nights when you want to take advantage of the home’s grounds. To the side of the house is a half-fenced garden area for privacy, which the kitchen looks onto. You can also see a little glimpse of the fully-equipped bathroom here, which also boasts a door to the outdoor patio – fill up the bathtub with bubbles and open the doors and windows – bliss!
